If you are traveling to a place in a group, it is smarter to buy group health insurance or a cheap family travel insurance as the premium will be marginally higher than for an individual.
In group health insurance, all members of the traveling group are insured against specified risks under a master policy. The idea is if you are already covered partly, then buy the travel insurance to cover the remaining items you wish to, rather than paying for the entire cover.
Even if you have a current health policy, having the additional coverage is beneficial. Your current policy may not provide benefits in certain circumstances.
